Purpose of Role

Under Armour is seeking a Regional Controller to join its APAC Regional Commercial and Sourcing Headquarters in Hong Kong.

The APAC Regional Controller is leader of the Controllership function for the APAC region; responsible for driving collaboration with all functions across the APAC commercial and sourcing operations and with the Under Armour Global Headquarters in the United States. He/she will report to the Chief Accounting Officer in the United States Global Headquarters.

Your Impact

  • The APAC Regional Controller serves as a key member of the APAC commercial leadership team, providing accounting guidance to the SVP APAC Commercial Managing Director and other members the APAC leadership team.
  • He/she will interact cross-functionally with key business functions and leaders to translate and communicate complex accounting information that drive informed business and financial decisions including the areas involving significant judgements and estimates.
  • The APAC Regional Controller will provide accounting requirements, develop processes, and act as key member of implementation team for all APAC commercial and supply chain business initiatives (i.e. acquisitions, distributor conversions, country launches, customer loyalty programs, store openings) and software implementations.
  • He/she will serve as a Director and/or officer on the Company's legal entities throughout APAC.
  • He/she will be responsible for the direct management and oversight of the controllership function across the entire APAC Region, consisting of US GAAP & local statutory accounting and audit execution, Customer Financial Services (Credit, Account Receivable, and Cash/Payment Card Application), Vendor Financial Services (Purchase Orders and Accounts Payable), and Indirect Tax (VAT and GST guidance and compliance).
  • Dotted line oversight and support to the APAC regional internal controls, payroll, and direct tax functions. Provide oversight of the treasury functions performed by the Controllership team in the APAC region including cash movements within each APAC country and within the APAC region, and support to the US headquarters global treasury and legal functions related to intercompany loans and capital contributions for APAC legal entities.
  • Facilitate the closing of the US GAAP and local foreign GAAP accounting books monthly, across all channels (wholesale/franchise, Ecommerce, and retail) for 21 legal entities in 18 countries. Responsible for overseeing the currency remeasurement process performed by the APAC controllership team to support the Global Acccounting Consolidation. Ensure compliance with the regulatory requirements for all legal entities in the APAC region.
  • Partnership with Regional Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) teams to prepare and review management reporting packages and responsible for overseeing other deliverables for inclusion in US GAAP consolidated SEC reporting.
  • Responsible for oversight of the US GAAP and local statutory audit process within Region, including; statutory audits conducted by local external auditors of the various legal entities in the region, complying with group audit requirements performed by the external auditors for those entities that are in scope for the US GAAP consolidated audit.
  • Responsible for ensuring regional execution of key accounting practices by implementing policies and procedures from the Corporate Accounting team, all Internal Controls are executed properly, filing of indirect tax returns for the various entities in the region and compliance with local accounting rules applicable to the U.S. consolidated financial statement audit
  • As a key people leader in APAC, responsible for oversight of the mentoring, training, and development of the teammates within controllership team in the region to foster a spirit of continuous improvement
  • Identify and assist in implementing process and technological improvement opportunities.
Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Direct reports: China Controller, Korea Controller, South APAC Controller, and Sourcing Controller
  • Dotted line oversight: Regional Managers of Internal Controls, Direct Tax, and Payroll.
  • Oversight of external auditors and consultants
Qualifications

- Fluency in English; Mandarin and Cantonese a plus

- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field with master's in accounting

- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent certification

- 10+ years working for a global company or mix of large public accounting firm and global company.

- Experience working for a US headquarter company a plus

- Proficiency in US GAAP and local GAAP in APAC countries

- Experience with large ERP/Accounting systems required

- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

- Experience with bridging and analyzing financial data for accounting specific needs.

- Experience in managing APAC statutory audits.

- Proficiency in accounting technical research and ability to form conclusion on accounting treatment of complex business transactions.

- Strong analytical and communication skills. Ability to express facts and ideas in writing in a clear and organized manner; listen effectively and clarify information as needed.

- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from various departments.

- Detail oriented and ability to work independently and efficiently.

- Ability to be flexible and prioritize/manage multiple initiatives concurrently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

- Ability to effectively present information and respond to requests and questions at the local country, regional and global headquarters level.

  • Return to Work Designation: 3 days week in-office, the remainder of work week remote.
